TH3RD BRAIN CASE STUDY
HOW OUR ROYALTY SERVICES ARE VITAL FOR A GROWING LABEL
THE STORY OF TH3RD BRAIN
Record label Th3rd Brain was founded by artist managers who believe in the value of ‘Creating Together’ with artists. The company began as a management company, working with artists like Krewella, Gallant (Grammy Nominee), ZHU (Grammy Nominee), Grace VanderWaal, NoMBe, and Emmit Fenn. They’ve helped artists across many genres find success in a market that is notorious for making it challenging for artists to find success.
WHY MRC WERE CALLED
While Th3rd Brain is a rapidly growing label, they wanted to ensure their data and royalties for artists were executed in perfection. This stretches from ensuring that the dozens of contracts and agreements are correctly analysed, to guaranteeing artists are paid the correct royalties.
The TH3RD BRAIN team also sought a royalty and accounting team with experience in all types of contracts, and since MRC provides customised royalty processing and administration services, we were the ideal match.
“We looked for a company that was patient in onboarding clients. One that understood there are probably as many as dozens of revenue streams to account for during this process. And that’s why we decided on The Music Royalty Co. They were able to handle the number of contracts and artists, even futureproofing us as a growing label. This is something that other companies were not able to manage.”
– Alec Udell, Co-CEO & Leader, Th3rd Brain
GROWING AN INDEPENDENT LABEL
Growing businesses can quickly scale up. And so, it’s critical that we know we can support them throughout the process—without compromise.
“I’m confident that as we keep growing as a label, MRC will be able to continue to assist us on the highest level.”
Says Alec.
Data-backed insights into multiple streams of incoming royalties are critical for a growing company. We are, in essence, an extension of their team.
THE RESULTS
We applied a service for Th3rd Brain to keep track of every artist they work with. We make certain that every royalty run goes smoothly. The team ensures that the catalogues in our system are up to date, that statement and invoice releases are correct, and that those agreements are ingested correctly and accurately paid on each contract.
This requires high levels of data accuracy across multiple royalty systems. Even though the label is based in Los Angeles, California, and we are in the United Kingdom, the communication is seamless.
