Featured in Music Week: The Future of Royalties with MRC’s Brendan Jack

If there’s one thing we’re truly passionate about, it’s music royalties. (Our name pretty much gives that away, right?) With the music industry always evolving, and with the rise of streaming revenues and the integration of AI technology, our very own Royalties Director, Brendan Jack, sat down with Music Week to discuss the state of the royalties business in 2024. Here’s a look at what Brendan shared in their Special Report.
AI’s Role: A Tool, Not A Replacement
In Music Week’s special feature, the growing role of AI in managing music royalties was a major focus, especially when it comes to processing the massive amounts of data generated by streaming platforms. Brendan shared our thoughts on this, stressing that while AI will be helpful, it’s not about to take over entirely.
Keeping The Personalisation In A Digital Age
While some companies are diving into AI-driven solutions, we take a more balanced approach. As Brendan explained,
“It probably comes as a surprise, but [AI] is not something that currently factors into our work. Our focus is on the emphasis on human involvement, paired with evolving technology, ensuring a level of service that software alone cannot provide.”
“A lot of people conflate having the right software with having the knowledge and expertise needed to truly manage royalties effectively. The positive feedback we get from our clients tends to focus on things like our attention to detail, flexibility, expertise, communication and support in finding solutions to the weirdly niche problems often thrown up by music royalties and royalty systems. Having an open and transparent conversation with someone will remain invaluable.”
In a world where tech is king, maintaining open and honest conversations with our clients continues to be invaluable.
For All Your Royalty Needs
The Music Week feature also highlighted how we’ve become a one-stop solution for publishers, labels, and rights-holders.
This approach helps us stay flexible as the industry continues to change.
With over a decade of experience, we’ve worked with an impressive roster of clients, including major industry names like ABKCO Music & Records, Cooking Vinyl, and Kartel Music Group.
Looking To The Future
As global music revenues continue to rise and streaming dominates, royalties are becoming an even bigger part of the business conversation.
With projections showing that the global music industry could nearly double in size by 2030, we are preparing for the next wave of growth. As highlighted in Music Week, our blend of tools, invaluable expert human oversight, and client-first mentality positions us to continue leading the way in this industry for years to come.
